I had to build nvidia-kernel for my kernel. If I added the Driver "nvidia" to xorg.conf I got black screen because the nvidia driver don't find my screen. I use notebook: SONY VAIO VPCCW1S1E But I use custom EDID from windows registry. example: Section "Device" Identifier "Configured Video Device" Driver "nvidia" Option "NoLogo" "True" Option "RegistryDwords" "PowerMizerEnable=0x1; PerfLevelSrc$ Option "ConnectedMonitor" "DFP-0" Option "CustomEDID" "DFP-0:/etc/X11/edid.raw" VendorName "NVIDIA Corporation" EndSection If I start X, KDE will work, but virtual-console will be black.

Poor Performance under 3D / openGL. Though usable for specific purposes. (not for general desktop use under say Compiz) Cough.. I haven't tried for a while though. Other than that fully automatic install and configure AOK.

Required Manufacturers firmware also gives a load error at daemon start which ALSA manages to correct. (guess) dmesg firmware loads AOK. (2 X.fw ) Yamaha DS-1 PCI 0000:00:0c.0: firmware: requesting yamaha/ds1_dsp.fw Yamaha DS-1 PCI 0000:00:0c.0: firmware: requesting yamaha/ds1e_ctrl.fw However on restart alsa-utils services I get this error: Setting up ALSA...warning: 'alsactl restore' failed with error message 'Unknown hardware: "YMF724F" "SigmaTel STAC9704" "AC97a:83847605" "0x1073" "0x000d" Hardware is initialized using a guess method'...done. Note: It works fine 5X5 for general interface and music / midi etc. I have yet to exploit any "on chip" resources at this stage.

This may be a bus problem but: I get kernel level errors when Ether card NOT connected. I haven't investigated any further at this stage. dmesg:: tulip_stop_rxtx() failed (CSR5 0xf4660000 CSR6 0xb3862002)
