I personally prefer the OSS ATI drivers. You get more fps with the proprietary drviers but you loose in stability. I got frequent X crashes when I used to use the proprietary drivers.

perfect (beryl/compiz with aiglx without any difficulty) but fps quite low (not a good graphic card)... But, you can play to counter-strike without any problem.
