Proprietary driver
Not yet tested.
See http://manx.biz/opensource/Dell-M65/
It works out of the box with proprietary drivers ipw3945
linux-generic needed so that the linux-restricted-modules is installed and updated automatically
Intel non free driver
With Ubuntu 7.04 perfect, out of the box, but restricted firmware.
Using proprietary driver
Need drivers delivered in PowerPack only or available via PLF
I did not test it yet.
Works with ifup. With NetworkManager, if the WPA connection is dropped, then you need to do:
modprobe -r ipw3945; modprobe ipw3945
Need to install ipw3945, ipw3945-kmdl, ipw3945-ucode, ipw3945d packages available at atrpms and fedora repositories.
never tested
need to install ipw3945
Uses a closed firmware (blob) which is provided by Ubuntu since 6.10
need to install ipw3945, ipw3945d, ipw3945-ucode, ipw3945-kmdl, ieee80211-kmdl from atrpms
ipw3945 driver and deamon.
ipw3945 driver and deamon.
No problem
I have difficulty in setting this up in different environments
With Intel’s driver and proprietary firmware
iwl3945 driver
At least with ipw3945 (binary deamon).
I haven’t tested iwl3945.
no problem at home (802.11b AP)
i can’t get a proper DHCP address at work (802.11g AP)
Need ipw3945 module and related firmware. At boot modure is loadedbut the deamon ipw945d does not started.
Issue resolved with the suggestion found at http://qa.mandriva.com/show_bug.cgi?id=31745#c3
alias Mandriva Bugzilla bug #31745, commend #3.
Works also with wpa_supplicant with wext driver
Both with ipw3945 and with iwl3945
Also wpa_supplican runs with wext driver
