Works out of the box on kernel >= 2.6.21 using module r8169. On older kernel official driver (r1000 module) is required. Version 1.05 of official driver doesn’t work at all under my system.
Defaut r8169 module is buggy. I had to install Realtek r8168.
the only problem is windows on a dual-boot system, cause windows disables the nic when shutdown windows and reboot into linux. linux isn’t able to start the nic again.
Works with kernel realtek 1Gb drivers
had to download r8168 sources for driver since kernel 2.6.18 (fc6) did not have right module. it compiled smoothly and i am using it ever since without issues)
the kernel’s (out of the box) default driver r8169 seams to work but was very limited.
i guess new kernels (2.6.25+) has this driver by default.
(btw. sometimes r1000 is used, but do not use it! r8168 is better!)
beware when you have multiboot with Windows. When booting Windows->Linux, you need to power off (with switch or plug out cable) power source for 10..15 seconds. If not, network card will be in some power saving mode and will have very high latencies and dropping packets.
