Working sound cards on Debian 4.0 x86_64 (kernel: 2.6.22.1) by bjonnh (-3):

Some mixer problems in kde (keyboard shortcuts doesn’t work for the right things…) works well in E17 (even keyboard shortcuts). Got problems also with ubuntu default kernel( very bad sound quality), now in a more up-to-date one, it works well.

Working sound cards on Fedora 7 x86_64 (kernel: 2.6.22.5-76.fc7) by aquarichy (3):

Sound always worked to an extent, but I may be facing local, unique difficulties. At the very least, when I first installed Fedora 7 Test 4, it was only coming out of one of the two speakers.
——————-
I originally had to do modifications when I installed Fedora 7 Test 4. Those included replacing the /etc/asound.state to ensure that sound would come out of both speakers and that my microphone would work.

However, after a later upgrade, the sound became (and remains) crackly, and my microphone no longer works. I am not sure whether that is a problem with the soundcard itself or changes to the kernel/ALSA.
