Requires manual invokation of start up and shut down of wireless driver. Driver actually works, but sequence of load appears incorrect. I created a new entry, “wireless” in /etc/rc.d/init.d, which first does “/sbin/modprobe —ignore-install ipw3945” then “/usr/sbin/ipw3945d —quiet”. Similarly for shutdown it does “/usr/sbin/ipw3945d —kill” then “/sbin/modprobe -r —ignore-remove ipw3945”.
