This has been incredibly painful. In theory, I’ve heard of people using proprietary driver + a bunch of hacks to get something unstable going, but they did not work for me (well, it did make my system very unstable!)

The ATI Official driver is really really buggy. They made some efforts, but I really can’t understand how they can take so much time to release new versions correcting bugs (some of the bugs are here since months). And why aren’t they releasing specifications ?
The X.org 3D/DRI is not working with the base driver (ati).
