I have the following in /etc/modprobe.conf:
options snd_hda_intel model=targa-dig
Doing that I can control the internal speakers (surround mixer) and the headphones (pcm mixer).
Else, the internal speakers are not muted when the headphones are plugged in. Automute does not work. One must mute each one manually.
